Clean energy the Velocity Energy way

Australia generates more pollution per person than any developed country1, but we have made aggressive commitments to reducing our carbon emissions.

The introduction of the government’s carbon pricing regime to support our carbon reduction pledges will impact the energy industry and will affect the cost of electricity from the grid.

Velocity Energy’s Smart Grid virtual power stations – as an element of the changing face of the energy industry – support clean energy and help avoid the carbon emission costs of our traditional peak demand management paradigm.

Top 4 benefits of clean energy the Velocity Energy Way

1) localised

Velocity Energy’s Smart Grid virtual power stations are cleaner than grid transmitted power because they are localised. Power is lost in the transmission of energy, and transmission losses increase with distance. This is a particular issue for Australia, as our National Energy Market (NEM) is the largest in the world - covering 4,500 kilometres2 – which means the grid needs to supply significantly more energy than the demand.

Localised power generation, like Velocity Energy’s solution, loses less energy in transmission, which results in lower carbon emissions.

2) used to meet peak demand needs

Velocity Energy’s Smart Grid virtual power stations are perfectly suited for meeting peak demand as they use existing assets, and they are able to power up quickly. Using this solution as an alternative to our traditional solution of building more capacity is a cleaner solution to meeting infrequent peak demand needs.

The construction of power plants, and the plants themselves, produce high carbon emissions. Velocity Energy’s Smart Grid virtual power stations help reduce or defer the construction of new power plants to meet peak demand.

3) support bio fuel use

  • Using traditional fossil fuels, Velocity Energy’s virtual power stations produce fewer carbon emissions than the black and brown coal energy plants in Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales.3
  • Using solely natural gas, Velocity Energy’s virtual power stations produce fewer carbon emissions than any NEM state except Tasmania where low emission hyrdoelectric power is prevalent.4
  • Using solely bio fuels, Velocity Energy’s virtual power stations produce fewer carbon emissions than any NEM state.5

Velocity Energy’s Smart Grid virtual power stations support the use of natural gas and bio fuels, which produce significantly lower carbon emissions than traditional grid generated electricity.

4) not impacted by the carbon price regime

The introduction of the carbon pricing regime will increase the cost of electricity from the grid. Velocity Energy’s Smart Grid virtual power stations are not affected, as the generators fall below the minimum carbon emission levels at which the carbon price kicks in.6
